But here we provide a thorough guide for the Orbi purple light. Its meaning, reasons why it comes and solutions to dispel it.

Meaning of Orbi Purple Light

Purple (or magenta) light means “can’t find the internet”. Basically, the router can’t talk to your modem or the modem isn’t giving it an internet connection.

Now, you should know about why this purple light is blinking or showing solid on the front of the Orbi router or satellite. Just have a quick look.

Why Orbi Purple Light is on the Orbi Device?

  1. Your modem’s dead or acting up.
  2. The cable from the modem to the Orbi isn’t plugged in right (yeah, check that first — you’d be surprised).
  3. ISP’s having one of their mystery “outages” that they never admit to right away.
  4. Orbi itself glitched out and just needs a reset.

Now that you have seen and read why this Orbi purple light is showing up on the LED of Orbi device. You should learn a few troubleshooting tips or solutions to dispel it properly.

How to Resolve Orbi Purple Light Issue?

These below given solutions are majorly provided by the WiFi mesh experts and will surely work to resolve the errors of Orbi Purple light.

Check your modem first

Unplug the modem, wait 30 seconds, plug it back in. If your ISP’s having an outage, the Orbi will just sit their purple no matter what you do.

Power cycle the Orbi
Pull the plug. Wait like a minute. Plug it back in. Give it 2–3 minutes to boot. Or you can press the power button for 2-3 seconds to reboot the Orbi device. them press it once again to turn it on. It might fix the issue.

Re-plug the Ethernet cable
Make sure the cable from your modem to the Orbi’s yellow internet port isn’t loose. Also make sure it is not damaged or cut from anywhere, it is replace it with a new one.

Check if it’s the satellite or the main router
If it’s a satellite showing purple, it means it’s not linked to the main router. Move it closer, or just hit the sync button on both and see if they find each other again. Or you can use the Orbi app to see the signal strength and them move it closer according to its guidance.

Firmware update
Log into the Orbi app or the Orbi admin login interface (http://orbilogin.com). Sometimes a bad firmware update or an old one causes connection drops. Update it and reboot.

Factory Reset
Hold that little reset pinhole on the back for about 10 seconds. You need a pen or pin to press and hold that reset pinhole button. Then, you’ll have to set it up again from scratch, so only do this if nothing else works.

Re-configuration

  1. Plug the main Orbi (the router unit) straight into your modem. Wait until the ring light goes solid white, then blue. If it goes amber or magenta, don’t panic yet—sometimes it just needs another reboot. I ended up power cycling both the modem and the Orbi twice before they decided to talk to each other.
  2. Once the app sees the router, it’ll ask about satellites. Hit “Add Satellite,” plug them in one at a time, and watch for that same blue light. If you get amber, it’s okay—just means the signal’s weaker, but still connected.
  3. After that, the app will push a firmware update. This is the part where you just leave it alone. Don’t unplug anything. Don’t get impatient. I made the mistake of thinking it froze—yeah, no, it was just downloading at dial-up speed.
  4. When it came back up, I set my network name and password again. Pro tip: use the same SSID and password as your old setup. Saves you from reconnecting every phone, tablet, and smart thing in your house.
